I first launched my personal brand as a ‘trusted advisor’ about 20 years ago after I sold my interest in our business. For the past 9 years, as Fasken Law’s Entrepreneur in Residence, I have been focused on building their brand in the emerging companies market.
Like so many others this year, I have had to adapt to a new way of working and communicating. As such, I decided it was time to update my web presence to better express my brand.
Going through the rebranding process allowed me the opportunity to take stock and make sure that I am clear as to what my personal brand is and how it is communicated to my community and beyond.
A personal brand is defined as “a widely recognized and largely-uniform perception or impression of an individual based on their experience, expertise, competencies, actions and/or achievements within a community, industry, or the marketplace at large”.
My personal brand is “trusted advisor to the CEOs of fast growth companies”. My goal is to communicate to my audience that I want to be my clients’ “first call” when an issue arises. I want them to call me before any other advisor or confidante, regardless of the issue – legal, finance, operational or personal in nature. I want my clients to think of me as their “go to guy”.
